典禮一直持續至夜晚：

原本外界預測太陽節當天，北韓會執行第六次核爆測試，但最後證實並無。

然而，今天南韓國防部發出最新消息，北韓16日試圖發射一枚飛彈，展示武力、威脅全球，「北韓今天早上試圖從咸鏡南道(South Hamkyong Province)的新浦地區試射一枚型號不明的飛彈，但是我們懷疑這次發射已經失敗。」

The festivities, celebrating the 105th birthday of Kim Il Sung, Kim Jong-un's grandfather, took place amid concerns that North Korea is possibly preparing for its sixth nuclear test or a significant rocket launch, such as its first flight test of an ICBM

美軍太平洋司令部表示：「飛彈幾乎一發射就立刻爆炸」，而且因為飛彈太快爆炸，根本蒐集不到什麼資料……(太尷尬了)。雖然目前飛彈類型尚未確認，但專家推測這枚飛彈不具洲際能力。

川普13日在推特上發文：「我有相當大的信心，中國將會妥善處理北韓問題。如果他們無法做到，那麼美國以及其他同盟國，將會親自出面！」

中國外交部部長王毅則表示，中國一向反對任何加劇半島局勢緊張的言行，「不是誰放出的話更狠，誰揚起的拳頭更大，誰就能贏。歷史已證明戰爭不會有贏家，希望各方不再相互刺激和威脅，避免事件向不可逆轉的地步發展。」
